Taste: Tasted OK. A little bland, I think next time I’ll use more cayenne and other things to give it some kick. Maybe get steamed/spiced shrimp instead of plain. The tomatoes and using broth instead of water for the rice allowed it to take on a flavour different from plain white rice (not that there’s anyhting wrong with plain rice, mind), and then the shrimp gave it … body, I guess. Gave it a little bit more, and an actually identifiable taste

Preparation: Not too bad. Sautee diced tomatoes and onions, add broth & rice, cook rice, then add shrimp, cook together. I used white long grain, rather than instant. I think it works out better that way, since the cooking style was closer to cooking rice rather than minute-ricing it.

Recipe: OK, the dish needs a little something to give it a kick. Or at least a flavour. And less. It says it serves 8, and I think that may be a low estimate, or maybe if they’re just eating the jambalaya. As a side, 12 or more. And about half that shrimp. I put in 1.8 lbs rather than it’s 2. I think 1lb might have covered. Then halving the recipe in general, or 1/3 even.

Cost: As the recipe stands, rather high. 2 lbs of shrimp adds up, even if nothing else involved does. I think that if I reduced the quantitiy and then also reduced the concentration of shrimp, this would end up being maybe 5$. Might push into the 10$ range, since the broth and the diced tomatoes won’t really be fully used, but they’re less likely to be saved. Still, not a bad price, since most of the items (except shrimp) can be purchased on sale and just held onto until you make the idsh. canned everything worked OK.
